At the heart of Our Life – Simple Life is a powerful question posed by our founder, Vusi Mathebula: Why are human beings often divided, categorised, and governed in ways that mirror the treatment of domesticated animals? This question sparked a journey of learning, reflection, and community action.

Vusi’s academic background includes studies at the University of Oxford in Psychology and Counselling, World Religions, Ritual and Religion in Prehistory, Philosophy of Religion, and Political Science. He also pursued Physiology and Anatomy through Discovery Learning. These experiences gave him deep insight into the systems that create division among people—and the tools that can bring us together.

One of those tools is sport. Vusi recognised that physical activity has the power to transcend cultural, political, and religious boundaries. This idea was inspired by historic moments like the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa and the ancient Olympic Games, and the 1936 Berlin Olympics highlighted how sport can transcend ideology, politics, and belief systems.

In September 2015, Vusi hosted a small gathering in his grandmother’s garden, inviting community members to join in Boxercise and traditional games. The event rekindled the joy of childhood play and brought together people from diverse backgrounds. What began as a simple gathering soon grew into a movement.  

As participation expanded, so did the vision. The need for a larger space led to the founding of an organization committed to unity through sport, arts, and culture. Today, Our Life – Simple Life has active branches in villages and towns across Limpopo, including Msiphana, Nkuri Tomu, Rikhotso, Xihoko, Mtiti, Mulamula, Thapani, Matsotsosela, Miyaka Yaka, Nwamitwa, Morudji, and Tzaneen. We’re also supported by a vibrant diaspora community in the UK, who share our mission and help amplify our impact.

Our work is rooted in simplicity, community, and the belief that everyone deserves a space to belong, grow, and thrive—regardless of background or belief.
